ProMat23 Recap: Touching the Future with (Cool) Tech

Don’t Call It a Comeback

ProMat has been here for years. Seventy-five years, to be exact – the first National Material Handling Show launched by the Material Handling Industry (MHI) occurred in 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio for an audience of about 3,000 attendees.

Fast-forward to 2023: ProMat returns as the biggest supply chain event in its history with:

  • 12% more registrations than the previous pre-pandemic show in 2019
  • 50,924 attendees
  • 1,051 exhibitors
  • 178 countries

ProMat23: Attendees with Buying Power and Intent to Spend on Tech

The dominant trend at ProMat23? A focus on digital supply chain solutions, including automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, the Internet of Things and end-to-end data transparency.

Included among the 50,000+ ProMat23 attendees were key decision makers with a mission to invest:

Additionally, according to the MHI 2023 Annual Industry Report: The Responsible Supply Chain:

  • 90% of respondents are planning to invest more than $1 million in digital supply chains that are autonomous, connected, intelligent and agile.
  • 38% of respondents are planning to invest over $10 million over the next two years.
  • 74% of respondents indicated they are increasing their investment in supply chain technology.

Tension Packaging & Automation Debuts New SLAM Line, Sortation Equipment and Sustainable Bagging Solution at ProMat 2023

Packaging automation. Intelligent conveyor systems. Robotics (and lots of them!). These technologies were all on display at ProMat23, highlighting solutions for attendees seeking to create autonomous, connected, intelligent and agile digital supply chains.

Our Tension Packaging & Automation team of experts were onsite at ProMat23, exhibiting our automation, conveyor systems and cool tech in booth S4359. Leaders from all disciplines, including operations, software, engineering, marketing, sales and leadership, met with booth attendees, prospects and Tension customers, engaging in consultative conversations on how our integrated solutions could benefit their operations.

Overall, attendees expressed the desire to increase package throughput in fulfillment centers. We also heard from many attendees who expressed a desire for sustainable packaging solutions. Our booth featured innovative new products attendees could see first-hand – such as our SLAM Solution, Z-Sort and MAX Pro-18 Paper Bagger – and all helped illustrate just how it’s possible to get more packages out the doors of distribution centers (in a sustainable manner).
